Yes, I can.

“It alway seems impossible until it’s done.”

So often people tell me what they can’t do versus what they CAN do. “I can’t eat healthy.” “I can’t work out that much.” “I can’t work out at all.” “I can’t make that change because of this.” What we are and AREN’T capable of begins in that thought we have in our mind. So if we’re saying we can’t do something, we won’t be able to because we’ve already made up our mind and laid out the plan or lack there of.

If you had told me years ago that one day I would go vegan, I would’ve laughed in your face. If you had told me that I would one day be able to run for long periods of times without running out of breath and feeling sick to my stomach, I would secretly hope you’re right but still not believe you. If you had told me that one day I would walk away from a decent paying job to walk into financial uncertainty, I would’ve thought you were crazy. I share these personal experiences to say that we all begin somewhere and life can take us unexpected places if we allow it to

Our thoughts have power and they are the starting point to whether or not we will make the better choices for self. The person I’ve become today chooses to not put limitations on my thoughts or words. I can’t say I was always this way. I didn’t know the full extent of the saying “words have power.”

Confucious once said “Those who say they can, and those who say they can't, are usually both right.” So why put limitations on ourselves? This is something I’ve pondered for a long time and it comes back to a common theme: fear. We live in fear of living our best lives because conformity can seem safer. There is nothing safe in living a mediocre life that reflects poor health choices, unhappiness, and being stuck, mentally and/or physically.

Here’s a secret, it all begins with a desire and a thought. And we all have desires. We all have the power of thought, It’s choosing the right one. The one that says yes, I can set my alarm to get up a little earlier to get in a workout even if it’s just 3x a week to start with. Yes, I CAN make this healthier choice in foods versus eating whatever sweets are lying around the office. Yes, I CAN have the future I desire so long as I believe that I can make the small choices that used to scare me and seem difficult. Start small. It’s those little, teeny, tiny things you may think don’t make a difference that are actually setting you up for a life of I CAN do anything I set my mind to.
